Image libraries?
« on: September 13, 2012, 09:53:18 am »
Are there any other image libraries available for EA, or has anyone had any experience in loading other clip-art libraries into EA?

Thanks

Other than these provided by Sparx I am aware of no others.

Please let me know if you find something.... I'm in desperate need of something more than sparx's imagelibrary myself.

You can import individual images from another source into the image library. You can also bundle these images into an MDG Technology, and you can import the image library from another model as reference data. This means that you can build up your own image library and share it between models, and you can group the images in the technology so that they are available as a set when that technology is in use. For more information, see this help topic, and follow its links.

The Sparx Systems image library is copyrighted; just bear in mind that many other sources of images are also copyrighted under varying conditions of use.

There are a number of royalty free and public domain clip art libraries which I am looking at. However most provide their art as either PNG or SVG.

Since EA does not handle transparency in PNG files (as far as I can tell) that option is out. So I'm trying to find an easy way of converting the SVG files into something with transparency that EA supports. I presume WMF or EMF would be best - is that right?

I'm aware that I can import these one-by-one into a new EAP file, using the Image Manager. Then export them all as reference data into a new "Image Library" which can be imported into other repositories.

Any advice on the best/easiest file format to use for original clipart?

Thanks

I've experimented in the past using various clip art libraries such as those from MS Clip Art. I've found importing WMF  files works best overall. However a word or warning; I have found for some reason when creating large diagrams with imported clip art images which are placed  beyond a certain boundary on the diagram, the images disappear when printing even though on screen they appear to be okay. Tried on different printers in different organisations but still get the same problem. I have reported to Sparx a few years back but they couldn't replicate the problem so it hasn't been fixed. I still observe the same bug today.
Happy to help
