Default location of dialog for multiple monitors
« on: April 08, 2005, 08:11:21 am »
Currently it seems that the dialogs such as the attribute and class editors pop up at the last location you had them.

I run dual monitors and sometimes I run EA on a different monitor.  When I do this, the dialogs pop up on the previous monitor rather than the monitor EA is running on.  I then start moving them.

My request is that the dialogs remember their coordinates relative to the EA window rather than absolute screen coordinates.

I'm not dismissing your request, but I use EA on multiple monitors, and your request would be a pain for the way I work.

As an example, I usually run EA on the right screen, and open the code template editor on the left.  If I opened EA up on the left screen another time, I wouldn't be able to access the template editor at all.  Of course it should then be possible to know that it is out of the screen and reset it, but then I completely lose my preference.

Thanks Simon.

I think I have a solution for both of us.

For EA to remember the position of any box relative "a" monitor, not a particular monitor.  EA decides which monitor based on the location of the main EA window.

3 examples:

1.
I move EA from monitor 2 to monitor 1.  EA responds by relocating all windows (except EA itself because you already moved it) to the "opposite" monitor.  This way, for each box on monitor 2 they would be moved to monitor 1 (it would look like they followed the main window) and all on monitor 1 would be moved to monitor 2.

2. I start up EA and immediatly move it to the other monitor.  All boxes that come up therafter would show up on the opposite monitor that they would normally show on.

3.  Suppose you had 3 monitors.  My guess is that there would simply be a swapping of monitors.  Suppose you had EA in the middle and you moved it to the monitor on the right, all content between the middle monitor and the righ monitor would be flipped.  The far left monitor would be uneffected.
