Improve speed of forum searches
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:50:20 am »
Could Sparx possibly buy a bigger server for the forum searches? Mine usually specify 'all time periods' and each search seems to take several minutes to run - not a great user experience, but one which should be relatively easy to fix.

+1 from me. I already had the problem that our proxy dumped the connection with 'server not responding' when issuing long running searches  :P

This doesn't really address your request, but Google indexes a subset of the boards in this forum.  Not only is it fast, but if you have some google power user mojo you perform more refined searches.

The other boards may be indexed, or it may be possible to somehow coerce Google into indexing them, I know not.  This information was posted by a user quite some time ago and I just periodically regurgitate it :)

+1 from me, too.
Maybe a good column indexing on the DB level results in a significant improvement too?
