new to EA - learning advice
« on: April 27, 2004, 10:46:27 pm »
I am trying to transition from a career in I.T to a career in business systems analysis.  I am trying to get myself familiar with as many tools and methodologies, and so on, that you all use in your field.

EA looks quite intimidating at first glance, can someone recommend some good reading or tutorials available for purchase or on the web that might help me learn the basic use of the software?

I haven't been able to find a tuturial just yet.

thanks,

G'day,

Check out Zicom Mentor for Enterprise Architect (you'll find a link for it on http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/.)

I've learned EA by reading the Help File start to finish, and by playing with all menus and features in the software.

You'll probably find learning UML harder than learning the software.  (I'd recommend starting with "Teach Yourself UML in 24 Hours", or "UML Weekend Crash Course".)

I find the hardest thing to wrap my mind around is software development process and things like workflows, activities, deliverables.  What do you model and when?  (I'd recommend checking out "The Unified Sortware Development Process" and "Applying UML and Patterns".)
Cheers and best regards.

Hi,
another good start would be the ICONX-CD available at Sparx. It limits the focus to only a few points an should help to find a good starting point soon.
