version control and external documents
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:11:58 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying trial version of EA (before and if we buy it) and I found a problem. I want to share my project with other developers. I found tutorials how to do it thru xml files svn etc.
But my problem is how to share information like roles, resources and images or other external documents.

For roles and resources I found that there is an export to xml file and this file can be stored in svn manually later. Same way with external documents but this is little user unfriendly - is there a way how to set this directly to project what should be stored in svn?

I'd like to have all information in one place also with possibility to get all from svn at once.

Aand here we go to last problem - I have a diagram with images - how can I store these in svn? because in xml file there is only id of image. This is really unusable: get picture from svn and manually in right order import them into EA project (specially if adding pictures into project is done really really stupid way - filter is always set to bmp, you can add only one picture etc...)

thx for any help

You should be able to exchange this information as Reference Data. You can export and import such information. There are quite a few categories, which are listed in the EA help file (once you know where to look).

I do not believe that reference data can be managed through version control (at least not explicitly).

As to images, I think these can be exported and imported, but not individually. This is an area I don't deal with much, so let's hope someone can shed more light on this...

No, you can't have it!
