startup diagramm
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:19:30 pm »
Often I'm using EA to draw just one diagramm, let's say Stakeholders for a Business Process.

Now I distribute the .ea file and other guys who open it. Now they see a blank screen and are in confusion...

They need to click Project Explorer -> Business Process Model -> Business Context -> Stakeholders -> Diagramm1 in the tree. They could of course ask and I could provide that information in e-mail but wouldn't it be easier to set the diagramm to automatically open for them on opening the file?

It could also be of use in class diagrams (not only single-diagram files) where you'd want to start off from Main Packages.

Does EA provide a way to set such a "startup" diagram?

Thank you.

You can do this by displaying the diagram you want to open with the model, then from the menu choose Diagram --> Set Model Default and then save the model.  Anyone who opens the model from then on will have the diagram you set open up as well wnen the model file is opened.

Check the help for default diagram (I think) as there is also a way to set a default diagram per user.

But is it possible to open a project in the state it was when it was last saved? Then you don't have to browse the Project Explorer and re-open all the diagrams you're currently working on

Sure.  Once you have all the diagrams open you can do a File-> Save Project As.  This will open up a dialog box where you can check all the open diagrams and save the shortcut.  Note this will be saved with an extension of .eap.  This is not a real eap file but a text file with command line information for reopening the model with the information you specified in the SaveAs.  Finally just double click the saved .eap file and the model along with the diagrams will reopen.

Do a search on 'Save Model Copy or Shortcut' in the help to get more information on this.
