Regarding Belgium: It was Cesar in his "De bello gallico" who wrote: Gallia est omnia divisa in partes tres, quarum unam incollunt Belgae. (It's the beginning and just says that Gaul is divided into three parts. One of which is Belgium.) As you might know from Asterix the Gaul have a little town... Maybe Geerd knows more about that.

I do believe that Geert's portion of Belgium grabbed the Magic Potion just for themselves, and Caesar's 'De Bello Gallica' might have to be updated to divide Gaul into four parts, one of which is Flanders and another of which is ... Wallacia? Perhaps Geert can clarify that.  Since Gosciny and Uderzo are both French, perhaps Geert won't be talking to Asterix much. Though I also understand that Gosciny and Uderzo are not talking to each other much either.

Whow, I'm surprised of so much knowledge about our little country.
Usually I get the standard Ah Belgium, isn't that the capital of Brussels? response (usually from Americans). ;D
If Cesar would have written his "Bello gallico" right now he might have said that the Belgica part was subdivided into three parts: Flandria, Brusselica and Wallacia, and that the Flandrians and Wallacians where slapping each other with rotten fish to gain control over the Brusselica part.

I know that you didn't do too well in Eurovision this year (too soon?).

Still KP's motherland did worse - I'd let him know as well, but he'd just remind me about the World Cup ;D

Michael

What do you mean not good? We managed to get into the final and ended 6st place. That's the best result in decades 8-)

Really? I might have to recheck my facts.... I thought Belgium had the crazy butterfly song this year that came second last.

I think in reality Eurovision works a little bit like golf. The lower your score, the more national dignity you can hold onto. So even though the Germans trounced us 4-0 in the World Cup, they still have to deal with the shame of winning Eurovision.

Isn't that the cue for a heavily-muscled blacksmith to start pounding the singer into the ground with either a hammer or one of those well-used rotten fish?

Mr T appears to have been "pityin' da fool" for a very long time...

@Geert,

Actually, we 'Murkans are far better informed than you realize... for example, we know that those sprouts we all hate are from Brussels (wherever that is), and that if Caesar hadn't won the Garlic wars there'd be no such thing as marinara sauce. Or that salad of his. But what does Ned Flanders have to do with all of this?

O tempora, o mores.

This thread is like Rome just a few moments before the Vandals fell in.
