Improve Oracle performance - EA16
« on: November 05, 2021, 06:40:52 am »
I am trying to use EA 16 (beta) with Oracle repository.

The announcement of this release spoke of several improvements in performance, including related to database repository.

However, the performance issue in Oracle remains really terrible.

This problem unfortunately persists for more than 15 years when I started using the EA.

Is there any way to optimize the EA on Oracle, for example, with indexes provided by Sparxsystems?

There probably only one index pointing to SQL Server (or anthing not being Oracle) :-/

About free database options, which is better in terms of performance: MySQL or Postgresql?

Objectively, is there a database-related speed benchmarking?

For example:
SQL Server is 10x faster than Oracle.
SQL Server is 2x faster than MySQL.

I don't think there's too much difference between any non-Oracle DBs. I do think that DB2 is in the same league as Oracle as they are meant for large volume queries while the rest is targeting more towards small (EA-like) queries. More a stomach feeling since I never did any benchmarking. Nor do I know of any being made (try Google). The main complaints here come from Oracle users, that I know.

I agree with q. Oracle simply doesn't work for EA.
Even with the most high end servers this simply doesn't work.
I've seen lots of Oracle DBA's try to fix it, but they all had to give up.

I know SQL Server works just fine, and you can find people with SQL Server knowledge on every street corner.
That is usually more difficult if you want to use any of the other databases such as PostgrSQL or MySQL

Similar experience in numerous organisations. Even with so called Oracle Guru's we've not been able to get Oracle t o perform. Migrated to SQL Server with no issues. Not Tried any other DB's.
Happy to help
