Quick Linker
« on: May 06, 2013, 08:26:30 pm »
I wonder if someone else has the same experience or whether this is just a hick-up with my VM: When you create an element by pressing the space bar on a diagram you see the quick-linker icon (the little arrow), but you can't use it. You need to click once again onto the new element in order to be able to use the quick-linker. For me that is very confusing as often I want to connect the new element with another one. And then the click runs into the void and nothing happens.

No what? No, not that experience. Or no, does not work either?

It works correct with the diagram toolbox (drag'n'drop) , but not when using the space bar to open the context menu.

When you create an element from the spacebar context menu, EA puts keyboard focus in the newly created element's name. I'd say that's correct: the first thing you're going to want to do on creating a new element is name it.

Ehrm, what? If I create an element via blank space menu or via dragging it from the diagram toolbox takes me through the same workflow: properties are opened, I can modify and then save. Then I see the same picture: the new element, framed (selected) with the tools for quick-linker and painter. But in the first case these tools do not work unlike in the second case.

Ah, you have "Edit Object on New" selected. Different ball game!

I have (although not remembering having it set). But then, is the behavior inconsistent? And should I report a bug?

No as a response to your question 'I wonder if someone else has the same experience or whether this is just a hick-up with my VM'... so imo what you see is not a bug in EA, might still be a version or a configuration issue though.

Thanks Paulus. However, the issue is due to the different behavior after setting Edit on New. Probably I did set this option ages ago and each re-install preserves it. I will a report a bug.
