Archimate 2.0 - Bus Layer Diag - "Product Element"
« on: July 02, 2013, 02:21:47 pm »
Hi All,

I am using the Archimate 2.0 - Business Layer Diagram from the EA user interface.

I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion with the issue I am encountering with the "Product" element.

I have for example a product name  "The Name of My Product is Secret".

When I resize the element the text wraps to the new size, but the inline box or label within the product does not adjust to suit the text wrapping which results in a ugly looking element.

The only way I can seem to get around this issue is to size the element based on the number of characters in the product name which is blowing the overall size of my model to an unnecessary size.

Does anyone have a suggestion to my issue or this a behaviour of EA and worthy of a feature request?

Regards,

Stoppy  :D

For anyone following this thread, Sparx have confirmed this behaviour is not a bug.

"The ArchiMate 2.0 specification states the element shape to specify the name being contained in the oblong at the top and EA is thereforing conforming with specification."

An alternative solution is to be supplied, anyone wanting this please let me know and I will update thread.

Stoppy  :)

Hi thanks for the update

I would certainly be interested in any alternative solution.

Does the Archimate 2.0 spec imply then names cannot be wrapped on multiple lines or may spill outside the "name box" if wrapped? Or am I misunderstanding Sparx's reply?

Cheers

Phil

Hi Phil,

Yes, you are correct, from what I have been provided the Arhimate 2 specification states "Name being contained in the oblong at the top", hence no wrapping which is what I was wanting.

Here is the alternative solution I was supplied.

http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/10/extending_uml_models/add_stereotypes_and_metaclasse.html

Also in the EA 10 there is an example in the Learning center topic under: Modeling Language | Build a Profile | Extend a Technology

I have decided to live with the current behaviour rather then create a new set of elements to manage.
