Display max. diagram size using custom paper width
« on: July 17, 2015, 06:56:08 pm »
Hi all,

When drawing diagrams, I would like to let EA show me how large a diagram can be so that it would fit into the usable space of my document (16.49x24.19cm) without being downscaled. I thought, I could define a custom paper size to achieve this.

Unfortunately, the dialogue Tools > Options > Diagram > Page Setup lets me select a pre-defined paper size, but even when selecting "Custom Paper Size", I am unable to define the width and height.

Is there any other approach?

Select a printer which has the desired format or that lets you define such.

Hi rty,

I had the same issue since I need the images with a maximal width. Since there is most likely no setting "max image size" but only the max image memory limit, this one did the job for me:

In an empty diagram, draw a box (any rectangle Element will do) from the most left position to the thick vertical line on the right.

TOOLS / Options / Diagram / Page setup.
Choose an existing (!) paper format as you prefer and play with the border settings. Adjust your box to the border line. Export the diagram (Ctrl-T) and look at the size of the exported image.
Adjust the borders until the size hits your requirement.

Any new diagram will now have these settings. All you have to care about is that no part of the diagram will ever cross the right border. There is no automatism for the check, though.

Unfortunately, you have to correct all existing diagrams by hand (double click on diagram / Diagram / Page Setup - Advanced / Page Setup), or maybe you are apt enough to write a script.
