Is it a bug? - Get Latest version, Package control
« on: July 22, 2004, 12:58:57 am »
Or have I worked too much?

Scenario: Enterprise Architect Evaluation version, Professional, 4.00.726, integrated with MKS Source Control.

Weird alert: When a package is modified, and then checked in by another computer, and in my computer I try to get the latest version (which should be the version checked in by the other computer), EA always alerts me that my version is up to date and there is nothing to be loaded, and asks me if I want to keep my version or load from the file. If I keep my version, I will not see the changes made in the other computer, so I must choose "No", to load from the file.
It is specially dangerous and serious when the users have to check-out to make changes. If you accept that you have the latest version, and make changes and then check-out again, all of the changes made by another user while your EA were open by you will be lost, and only the changes made by you, in the model you had when you opened your EA, will be checked in by you...it can make a lot of mess!!

It seems to be a bug, right?

I don't think so.  The repository, (Either a database if using Corporate edition or a file if using Professional), is updated when the original user makes the change.  The only thing that goes into source control is the XML extract of the changes to the package at the time the checkin occurs.  The file or database is updated immediately.  That is why you had the same version as under source control.

You don't really need to Get Latest Version unless you want to revert back to the last version checked into source control.

Hallo!
well, I had the following problem: i checked out the package in one computer, made some changes and checked in. Then, I checked it out in another computer (it was my test routine) and, to check out, this message appears. If I trust in this message, I do not get the latest version of the package: I modify the version I had before (because the project was open in both computers) and I lost the changes made by the other computer. It can really make a mess when some employees are working in the same project at the same time...

Are you editing the exact same file from both computers?  If not, then put the EAP file in a directory that both computers can access.

Yes, I'm using a shared drive to access the same .EAP file from the both computers...that's why I was worried about that...because the .EAP file should be modified
