Laying out Packages for printing
« on: June 19, 2007, 08:55:49 am »
I need to become successful with the reporting mechanisms in EA, including handling the problem with as many simple solutions as possible.

One thing that is clearly an issue is the object model exposed in the template editor 'tag inserter' explorer.

This is clearly got to interact or be organized in synchronization with the way packages are used in the project explorer.

Therefore I'd like to get some advice about how to strategize this synchronization.

1. One thing that is 'arrangeable' is the way the tags can be moved 'up and down' in the tag explorer in the editor.

2. THe other arrangeable item is the way in which packages can be organized within top level models in the project explorer.

3. things that are not flexible are the boundaries between top level models. so what are those limitations about? what is the purpose of having a 'model' versus just a top level 'package' (I understand it isn't possible but why and what are the consequences).

4. Something else that isn't flexible is that some types of 'elements' have certain sub-elements/attributes that can be recursed into by the report template generator and others dont' make sense. This has consequences for some templates.

5. So what are the consequences of these interactions and what are good strategies to handle them?

Thanks,

Kimball Johnson
