Access to Eclipse Integration Add-In Version 4
« on: March 28, 2009, 04:43:21 am »
Dear all,

I have a license to the Eclipse Integration Add-In and in the past, following an announcement of a new version, I would downloadthe executable by clicking on "Try" Button on the product web page.

Following the announcement of release 4, It is my observation that release 3.0 is obtained by clicking on the "Try" Button for the Version 4. The link to the previous version also let to the release 3 product.

Please, kindly advise, Is this a genuine mistake or a deliberate action to restrict access?

kind regards

Segun

I was under the impression that eclipse and vs was included ( bundled ) in 7.5, along with a bunch of other MDG technologies...

Unfortunately,  that is is in the new BSE edition and above.  I've been exchanging emails with their sales staff on this.

I personally own a Corporate version license and licenses for both Eclipse and Zachman MDG technolgies/integrations for which I paid 145 each.   I'd like to upgrade to BSE edition to pick up the BPEL stuff, but Sparx sales is insisting my upgrade price is the delta between Corporate and BSE -- ie 267 USD --- making no allowances for the fact I already paid for Eclipse and Zachman.   I would have gladly paid something reasonable for the BPEL functions as an upgrade charge and paid the ongoing higher maintenance fees,  BUT their current policy is bad customer relations IMHO and I think I will likely NOT upgrade because of that.

Please, find my email to the Sales team at Sparxsystems:

Dear all,

I am happy that the 7.5 is out the door.

I read the upgrade price information with a lot of dissapointment.

I have over the years purchased MDG Add-Ins to fill the gap in the base EA software and hoping that someday when Sparxsystem have a solution like the Ultimate, the pricing will consider my investments in the Add-Ins.

The situation as I see it is that someone who never invested in your organisation will simply purchase the Ultimate edition and they reap all the benefits and someone like me is left with Add-ins which because their functionality exist in the Ultimate edition has no future. This is simply cruelty.

I cant even go back to my colleagues and tell them my story especially when my manager had concluded that given my efforts to promote your tool in the organisation, I deserve a lifetime personal licence.

I am not known to request what I dont deserve but I will suggest you review the upgrade price from corporate + MDG Add-Ins to Ultimate.

Thank you in anticipation

Their response:

Dear Segun,

Thank you for your email and we are pleased that you are interested in the new Ultimate edition.

As an existing registered user, you are able to take advantage of a special offer which allows you to upgrade your existing EA Corporate license to the Ultimate edition for a cost of US$351.75 - this is a saving of 25% off the standard retail price. Whilst there is no upgrade path for existing MDG licenses we trust that this special offer will allow you to enjoy the new features contained in the Ultimate edition. You will also still have full use of your existing MDG licenses.

Please note that to take advantage of the 25% discount you would need to purchase the upgrade before the 25th May 2009.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

Kind Regards,

Sparx Systems Pty Ltd
[email protected]

Result: I purchased the upgrade but I could not even access one of the Add-Ins (Eclipse Integration).

I am very angry that I am having to pay twice for the same tools (capabilities).

some mailing I had:

Hi,
I sow the new version pricing in the site. The upgrade price is the same regardless the volume of the licenses ?(I have 200 floating and will probably need more, so it will cost me a lot)
Will I still be able to buy MDG integration and links for DOORS(I have 50 floating of those and working on buying another 50)\VS(I have about 20 of those)\Eclipse(I’ll probably need a few dozens of those in the short range)? Cause since different users have different needs (developers needs Eclipse\VS while analysts need DOORS) It seems cheaper for me to keep my corporate floating and by MDG techs separately.
I’ll probably need in about a year a total of 300-400 EA licenses (including the 200 I already have) but only about 100 DOORS and maybe 200 Eclipse and 30 VS (all floating but VS), so if I sum it is cheaper than buying/upgrading to have 300-400 of ,let’s say, system engineering version.

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your email.

You are correct there is no volume discount available with edition upgrades.

You can still purchase the MDG Add-In products separately. If you are looking to upgrade your existing licenses to one of the new editions it is worth noting that there is currently a 2 month special available for the purchase of the new editions and for upgrades from the pre version 7.5 editions of EA. If you would like a quote on any of your proposed licensing requirements, please let us know the quantity and products and we will send a quote to you. If there is anything else that we can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

I suppose you just have to get a quote.

Of course your acquisition timing might be an issue. You probably have to make a trade-off between having control of when you buy licenses and how much they cost.
No, you can't have it!
