Assistance with Automating the HTML Report
« on: October 30, 2012, 05:37:39 pm »
Hi All,

As I move through our EA jounery our EA database is starting to grow and therefore the HTML report taking longer to generate.

I refer you to this link as to what I am trying to achieve in bold: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/products/ea/index.html

and this promotion of the product:

Automation - Harness the Power
The Automation Interface lets you access the internals of Enterprise Architect models.

Some examples of tasks you could perform via the Automation Interface:
•Automatically generate and publish a daily HTML report to your local intranet

•Script repetitive tasks, such as property update common to all model elements
•Generate code from a state machine or diagram
•Produce custom reports
•Execute ad hoc queries against the model
Any development environment capable of generating ActiveX Com clients can be used to connect to Enterprise Architect's Automation Interface.

At my last company I was able to refer my developer to some technical documentation and with a bit of back and forth between us he automated the process for me, in simple terms (Delete Existing HTML on share, Called EA, Generate and Publish HTML, Send Output Notification)

At my new job I don't have any developers at present and wondering is there a simle way of doing this or do you require a technical background to get this solution implemented. At a minimum this stage I would be happy with the job publishing every night. (I can manage the delete and check output for the interim)

Any assistance or guidance is appreciated.

Regards,

Stoppy

Try the Search button top left. Extend the time for a year. There's a thread somewhere dealing with automating HTML doc generation in the Automation board.

Thanks Qwerty.  I found this post: http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1334695800/0#0 not sure if this is the one you are referring too.

So as I understand from some of the other post and technical documents I have read. The automation is achieved by the API and the development of small application preferablly in the C# language.

So I guess the simple answer is you need a technical developer to get this to run. Bit of a bugger :-/

Still if anyone who has achieved what I am after and is willing to help me work through this on a logical step by step guide, that would be great?
