National (non-english) characters in models
« on: November 08, 2006, 12:31:23 am »
In older versions of EA, it was possible to set character set ("script" in font settings) for the whole EAP model. In EA 6.5, font can be set for each element, but "script" is ignored (always is reset to Western). Try to type some national characters (eg. ř, č, ů) in element note - a pipe sign | is displayed instead, and character is converted to neutral variant (r, c, u).

I want to set "Central European" font script for the whole model.

But you would need some means of perhaps setting it differently for different model subcomponents.

For example, the customer-facing aspects may require their own character codings, whereas the developers may require a different setting; maybe testers a third set; business modelling different again.

Just giving a difficult scenario ...

Why not :-) But now it simply doesn't work for Central European character set :-( Although it worked fine in older versions. Or is it that I just can't find proper menu item? Help me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

I'm working with Central European character set (Slovak language) without any problem. I even didn't know where  script could be set.

Finaly I've found it - right click an element, appearance, set font. My setting is Western (Arial). Strange. But it works.  ;D

I had to play a little bit with language settings when exporting RTF documentation, but this wasn't your problem.

I'm using EA 6.5.799 on Windows XP sp2

The same with the Czech. No problems these days. Where does it make troubles, Dan?

I have EA 6.5.797 - Unicode trial version on Windows XP Prof SP2. This is result of typing "Priserne zlutoucky kun" with diacritics:

When I click OK, some characters in element name are converted to non-diacritical form, element note keeps original characters, but does not display them:

There were similar problems some time ago with VARCHAR instead of NVARCHAR in DB.

But I think this is not the problem. I tried to reproduce it and I failed. Have you changed the default settings? Default is OK.

I uninstalled EA, deleted "Program Files/Sparx Systems" folder to remove any settings, installed current version (build 799), created new EA project, and it behaves exactly the same :-( Are there any other setting I should clean?

Thanx

I used EAP file. Using JET 4.0 didn't help.

I created a repository DB on MSSQL2005, and it partially works. Element names and notes are displayed correctly in diagram, but there are still | signs in editable displays:

That's much better (we want to buy corporate edition), but still quite uncomfortable for editing.

That is very strange behaviour. I have not met with this problem before.

Have you tried another computer?

/I have Czech WinXP SP2 and everything works fine./
