"The Decision Model" in EA
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:27:49 am »
Hi All,

I have a question if you are planning on adding The Decision Model (http://kpiusa.com/index.php/The-Decision-Model/the-decision-model.html) or the Decision Model Notation (http://www.omg.org/spec/DMN/) to EA.
It will be great to integrate and manage BPM models with BDM ones directly in EA. Currently I am faced with the hard choice to look for an additional tool that handles both and I really want to stick with EA as I am keen fan on EA :-).

I'm not familiar with "The Decision Model" but version 11 did add capability for "Decision Model Notation". It emulates the table style from that specification, although in the current version it doesn't render that to the diagram.

What exactly are you hoping to use?

Hi,

I was looking for similar functionality. Many BPM practitioners believe that DMN will become as important for automating decisions, as BPMN has become for automating processes.

Simon, if you're interested please read this article to see why this is a next big thing and why EA should want to keep up with it:
http://www.bpm-guide.de/2015/08/23/dmn-camunda/

At the moment EA´s DMN support
http://sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/12.1/business_engineering/decision_models.html
does seem very low profile (e.g. I see no possibility to export to reports, csv, limited code engineering support, no way to create testcases).
