Extension vs. add-in

What is the difference, if any, between an EA extension and an add-in?

In EA 9.2, the name of the thing was changed- without notice - from being an EA "Addin" to an EA "Extension". Just a documentation change, but meant all 'addin' writers (like eaDocX) had to make LOADS of documentation changes as well. Not helpful....

Whenever you refer to Menu positions in your documentation be sure to make it a variable. EA changes its menu structure almost each major release. The keyboard shortcuts however seem to be stable.
