Missing UML Core diagrams
« on: December 08, 2020, 08:20:31 pm »

So I've installed 15.2 Build 1555 a little while ago and came to create a use case but can't see the core UML diagram types anymore. The only Use Case diagram I can see is GRA Use Case. I can't see class diagrams, state diagrams etc. Checked that all the MDG Technologies were enabled. Anyone else getting this problem? Don't recall seeing the problem when I first installed a couple of weeks ago.

Tried uninstalling V15.2 and going back to V15.1 but get same problem of lots of diagram type including UML Core not appearing in the options to create diagrams any more. Then I got to thinking I had a 20H2 update on windows the other day so beginning to suspect that the latest windows update is cause the problem. Anyone else out there had an upgrade with Windows 10 to 20H2 and experiencing the same missing diagrams?

Happy to help

Have you check if this is not due to selecting the wrong perspective?

At the top right you can select "All" as perspective.

So I tried the following;
  • uninstalling Windows 20H2 - no difference
  • installing V15.1 - no difference
  • Installing V15.0 - eureka the options to create the UML diagrams and others are again available.
So left I'm pondering why? I'm sure I would have noticed this before when upgrading to V15.1 and V15.2. As a rule I generally start using the latest release within a month of it being available and I usually do a quick smoke test of creating diagrams, elements etc just to make sure its okay.

Just to reflect the option to create UML Structural and UML Behavioural diagrams as well as the BizBok and some others disappeared recently with V15.2. After reverting back to V15.1 the diagram types were still missing and only when going back to V15.0 Build 1513 did the option to create those missing diagram types re-appear.

So two variables identified so far;
  • Windows 20H2 Features
  • V15.1+ of Sparx EA

No, I thought it was just me - as you know I keep having unintended consequences of some of my prior perspective setups.

And it wasn't such a big issue (as I have other machines on which the diagrams were still available).

However, given Geert's issue with some ARchimate diagrams, probably good to report.

Just point them at this thread so that they can see who's affected and how.

Okay I've reported it as a priority bug.
Summary:
 UML Structure, Behavioural Diagrams no longer shown in New Diagram Dialog
Details:
Seems after Windows 10 20H2 feature released installed that some diagrams types such as UML Structural, Behavioural can't be created as they are no longer shown in the New Diagram Dialog when all perspectives selected. However the Extended diagrams can still be seen.
 Problem exists with V15.1 B1528 too but not V15.0 B1513
Steps to Reproduce:
With V15.2 B1555 already installed install Windows 10 20H2 feature release
 Create new eapx model.
 Add Package
 Add Diagram
 In the New Diagram dialog the list of diagrams is significantly reduced. Two to note are the UML Structural and Behavioural diagram sets. Yet Extended set is there. There are others missing estimate around 30% of the normal ones available when selecting all perspectives.

Sparx Systems sent an email with a fix

Could you please try resetting your perspectives via the ribbon "Start -> Desktop -> Perspectives -> System Visibility -> Reset All".
That fixed it for me. V15.2 on Windows 20H2 now works as expected.

Cool!   I'll try it tomorrow.
