Unicode in EA
« on: February 25, 2009, 10:24:04 pm »
Hi, I'm using EA 7.1.832 and when I want to save japanese characters in use case notes, EA doesn´t allow me, it transforms them in ??? characters.
Do you know if EA support unicode characters in artefacts like use case, class, etc..?

Regards, thanks in advance

Hi Ernest,

It should support these.

Take a look at the Tools | Options dialog - the General page, which should be the default - and see if you have Jet 4.0 enabled. If not, set this option. You will have to exit from EA and restart the program; after you do that EA will remember this setting for all future sessions.

There is also an EABase model for Jet 4.0, which you have to download from Sparx. You will then have to rename your existing base model - don't delete it in case you need to revert for some reason - and rename the downloaded model to EABase.EAP. The base model is found in your EA install folder.

And yes, this is clumsy. And yes, the Jet 3.51 setting is obsolete (no longer just obsolescent). I've reported this to Sparx and suggested that the 4.0 model become the default, with an option to bring down the earlier one. They said they would consider it. We did not discuss the matter further.

No, you can't have it!

Yes, this issue is known (and reported as error) for quite long time.
The problem is with the Notes window (and one or two others, IIRC), however, most windows do work with Unicode; it seems to be a hardcoded UI font problem as the data _is_ there.
No solution provided AFAIK.
The only workaround is to set your Windows ANSI code page to Japanese (but if you need two different codepages at the same time then it wont work out).

There was an issue in 7.1 where the rich text notes lost some unicode characters.  (Irrespective of database)  That error was fixed however.
