Scenarios Tab - Responsibilities Window

The 'Scenarios' tab of the Responsibilities window is the simplest of the three screens on which you can create and manage scenarios for an element.

You use this tab to create a Basic Path scenario or, if a Basic Path already exists, an Alternate Path scenario.  The tab also simply lists the existing scenarios on an element, and provides options to edit or delete any of these scenarios.

Access

On a diagram or in the Browser window, click on the element and:

Ribbon

Design > Element > Editors > Scenarios

Context Menu

Right-click on element | Properties | Responsibilities > Scenarios

Browser window > Element | Scenarios | Scenario List

Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl+4 > Scenarios

Alt+5 | Scenarios

Create a Scenario

In the 'Scenario' column, click on the Add Scenario text and type in a name or title, then click away from the item line.

If this is the first scenario on the element, it is automatically created as the Basic Path; subsequent scenarios are automatically created as Alternate paths. You cannot change these allocations on this tab.

Alternatively, right-click on the Add Scenario text and select the 'Add New' option. The 'Scenarios' tab of the element 'Properties' dialog opens. See the Scenarios Tab - Properties Dialog Help topic.

Review Scenarios

Where there are existing scenarios, the 'Scenarios' tab lists them in the order in which they were created (or in the order they have been reorganized into on a different screen). You can see any notes that have been written elsewhere for each scenario, and the type of each scenario. To display the full text of the notes, hover the cursor over the 'Notes' field. Alternatively, if the Notes window is open you can read and edit the note text there.

You can edit the scenarios in one of two ways.

  • Right-click on the scenario line and click on the 'Modify Selection' option to display the 'Scenarios' tab of the Properties window, if you want to:
         -  Put the scenarios in a different sequence
         -  Add or edit Notes text
         -  Change the scenario name and/or path type
  • Click on the Edit button in the 'Structured Scenario' column to display the Scenarios View, if you want to:
         -  Put the scenarios in a different sequence
         -  Change the scenario name and/or path type
         -  Add or delete steps in the scenario, or re-sequence them
         -  Link the Alternate and Exception paths to specific steps of the Basic path
         -  Manage the elements that the scenario uses at various steps
         -  Generate diagrams or Test Cases from the scenario

Delete Scenarios

If you no longer want to keep a scenario for an element, click on the scenario name and either select the 'Delete' option or press Ctrl+Delete. A prompt displays to confirm the deletion.
