Individual model document layouts
« on: May 22, 2012, 01:01:49 am »
Hey chaps and chappettes,

I'm trying to put together a neat-looking master document for a model.
It consists of two model documents, each using its own RTF document template. One dumps all the diagram images and the other creates tables of activities.
I want my diagrams to be in landscape layout, while the tables and the master itself should be portrait.

I can go into my diagram template and change its layout using the File - Printer Setup option. This yields the correct result when I select a package and generate a document with this template.

However, when I generate using the master document, I get all pages in portrait layout, including the ones with the diagram images.
The diagram images shoot off over the right-hand margin, indicating that they honour the selected page layout but the master document does not.

Is there an option I can set somewhere to make the master document generate different page layouts for the different model documents? Or is this a known limitation? (Or bug?)

Cheers,

/Uffe

Have you tried the option?:
Diagram --> Properties --> Diagram --> Rotate Image (bottom right of the message-box)

One warning though: it stretches your image from top to bottom of the page and therefor moving any extra text like (figure 1.) to the next page.

This should be possible, but you have to set the orientation in each of the RTF model document templates I believe.

If I remember correctly you need to go to the Edit menu, then the Edit Section option, and then set portrait or landscape for that RTF template (assuming you only have one section in the document).

Then when you generate the output from the master document, the orientation of each model document should be honoured.

You need a RTF template for portrait, and another for landscape.
Associate the RTF template with the model documents as required.

The first last thing in the RTF template must be a section break.

Then change the page orientation in "File | Printer setup"as required.

Note that if the section break is at the end of the RTF template the page orientation bleeds through to the next model document (it is not orthogonal).
(this has been reported as a bug)

[edit]section break must be at the end of the template[/edit]

Thanks guys!

I got it to work, but not exactly as described by skiwi.
My three templates, in order:
1) Master - Portrait
2) Diagrams - Landscape
3) Tables - Portrait

When I placed section breaks at the head of the templates, I got the master in landscape and the diagrams in portrait. In other words, the page orientation got reversed between the first and second template.
Maybe this only happens between the first model doc template and the master, but I haven't checked this. In any case, it might make a useful addendum to the bug report (I haven't filed one); if so, I'm on 9.2.921.

Here's what worked for me:
No section breaks at the beginnings of the templates.
1) Master - Portrait - Section break at end
2) Diagrams - Landscape - Section break at end
3) Tables - Portrait - Section break at end

This gives me a couple of blank pages here and there, but I can live with that.

Cheers,

My apologies for putting you wrong there, I relied on my memory.
In fact all our templates have the section break at the very end.
