Occational "Enter password" prompt
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:11:50 pm »
Hi all,

Several time, we have encountered an annoying bug(?) in Sparx:

When starting the application, the user chooses to connect to our Oracle DB, Sparx starts to think about this for a moment or two, and then throws the user a dialog box, asking the user to "Enter password".

No details on what password is given, but we know for sure (trial and error) that it is not the Oracle user password.

The problem persists until it solves itself(?). We also have one example, where a colleague of mine, replaced the key-store file with an older version - this allegedly fixed the problem as well.

I am having a hard time figuring out, if this is an Oracle problem, a Sparx Keystore problem or just a Sparc problem.

Has anyone else seen this error, and if so, what did you do to remedy this?

Kind regards,

Casper Helenius,
Denmark

I have seen that with other RDBMS. It comes when there is a network problem and one can't connect correctly. Try to connect with a native client in parallel and see what comes out. Eventually the driver supports some timeout value to be increased.

Hi qwerty,

Ah, makes sense. Just tried exactly that, and nope, there's no connection to the db at the moment. Time to hunt down a DBA :)

Strange error, though. I would have preferred a dialog stating that the database was not reachable, but that's just me :D

If I am on a workstation running ACCESS 2013, I get a password prompt when I open a local .ACCDB project in EA.

The .ACCDB file was created on another workstation running ACCESS 2010. It opens fine on that workstation.

Sidenote: In general, ACCESS 2013 does not seem to play well with EA.  I will be logging more on that under a separate issue.

The issue with Access sounds like one that I encountered recently -- turns out it was a feature, not a bug.   See the second bullet under "Notes" at the bottom of this page: http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/10/projects_and_teams/import_user_ids_from_active_di.html
