BPMN: Child lane in pool
« on: October 30, 2014, 12:02:19 am »
Hi,

I recently started modeling processes in BPMN with EA.
I would love to attach swimlanes onto a pool, but I can't find a way to do this. Other elements, such as events, are automatically part of a pool/lane when you drag them into it.
Is there a way to create a child lane in a pool? I am out of options.

Thanks!

Pools and lanes should be part of your toolbox.

Finding them is no problem.

I am quite familiar with BPMN so I know that lanes are always part of a pool. I just can't find the way to model this in EA. The "normal" way should be to drag a pool from the toolbox into the process view, and then drag a lane into this pool. However, EA always puts a lane next to a pool. I can move the lane into the pool manually, but EA still sees them as independent entities (Lane is not placed under pool in the Project Browser). This is not the way I want to build my models.

Is there a way to divide a pool into different lanes in EA?

Maybe it's the option Tools/Options/Objects/Support for... (4th tick mark)?

It was a nice try, but it's not working. This option enables other elements, such as events or activities, to belong to a lane or pool. However, lanes can still not be part of a pool. I think it's a bug, especially after reading following topic: http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1405380670

Oh yes, I am using EA 9.2. An upgrade is not optional because the software is provided by my employee.

Thanks

That might be the reason. I tried it with 1107 and had no issue.

Hi Tyas,

Yes qwerty is right, I think you should try and get an upgraded version. There have been a significant amount of improvements with EAv11 for BPMN

In the old version as a personal habit, I used to expand the pool to A3 or A4 length, then drop my lanes in and then start modeling in order to get my lanes nicely in my pools. Hope that helps.

Regards,

Stoppy :)
