Best way to upgrade?
« on: October 07, 2004, 09:20:37 am »
We are considering upgrading to 4.1 from a 3.x release. Is the best way to upgrade simply to uninstall 3.x and reinstall 4.1? Or is there a better path to preserve any settings, etc., already defined?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. As an additional question, is it possible to have multiple versions of EA installed on one machine?

Hi,
the easiest way is to simply install the latest version. The first time you access your old EA file/repository you will be prompted for an upgrade. If you acknowledge EA will do the rest and make a backup of the old EA file. You can no longer work with older EA releases on the converted repositories.

Also it is possible to keep both versions in parallel. The download section has the appropriate installers (I do not use that, so you have to check further sources like this board or EA's docu). Again you should remember that you can't access your old DBs with the new release and vice versa.
