multi-segment connecting lines
« on: April 12, 2005, 09:20:29 pm »
I've discovered that normal straight lines can automatically become multi-segment lines on a diagram.

Subsequent moves of objects then require fiddling to get the line segments straight.

How can I force connecting lines back to non-segmented, straight lines?

I checked FAQs, help file and EA configuration options but didn't see anything obvious...

There's three shortcuts worth remembering:

Ctrl+Shift+C changes selected line to Custom
Ctrl+Shift+A changes selected line to Auto-Routing
Ctrl+Shift+D changes selected line to Direct

So the answer to your question is Ctrl+Shift+D.

I'm worried about straight lines "automatically" becoming multi-segment. That shouldn't happen: if you can find a specific circumstance that's causing it (other than Ctrl+Clicking on the line, which is supposed to cause it) then could you send in a bug report please? Cheers.

Why is 'auto-routing' so bad - the lines fail to avoid other elements and lines, and generally turn out 'pessimised' rather than 'optimised', with corners in odd places.

I realise this is a rather broad allegation !!
