Having trouble with UML Profiles
« on: January 19, 2006, 01:48:42 pm »
I am looking for additional guidance on UML Profiles.

I am trying to create a SysML profile using the 1.0a spec and the sysml provided XMI file as reference.  I find that I can save the profile only if I create a UML profile with all stereotypes under the top-level <profile> package.  If, however, I attempt to create nested packages or metamodels, then attempt to save the profile, I end up with an empty xml file.

Has someone successfully imported/created  a SysML UML profile?
Or, are there plans to provide a profile for download along with the SPEM, BPM, etc. profiles?

The way to do it is have a <<profile>> package for each toolbox that you want to create, and save each of them as a single UML Profile. When you've done that, run the "Generate MDG Technology File" command from the Tools menu and bundle all of your profiles into a single technology file. That will give you a single XML file with multiple profiles.

Politics, politics... :'(

Yes, we have plans. At the moment there are two SysMLs: the SysML Partners have released their v1.0a that you mention and the SysML Submission Team have released their v0.98. Both are proposals, not official approved specifications.

Sparx have been working with the SysML Submission Team, so we may go ahead and release an add-in that supports the v0.98 specification, but I think it's more likely that we will wait until the approval process completes before releasing anything.

Thanks for helping me understand the differences between the two proposal efforts and how to get started on the profiles.

I am starting a rather large, systems of systems model and wanted to use EA & SysML.  It sure would be helpful to have a UML Profile for SysML v0.98   ;)
