Tags visibility...
« on: March 10, 2006, 02:18:08 am »
Hi,

I'd like to add some tags to activities. After adding a tag I am not able to make is visible on activity. Only activity name is shown. Is there any option that can help me?

Many thanks in advance!

Please reply here instead of sending a PM (use that if you want to know whether it's snowing here: yes).

I tried here and it shows the tags. Maybe you tell us, what you were doing to find out the problem.

I'd like to apologise. Of course I won't send personal messages any more. But speaking about the devil I do the following procedure:
1. create a stereotype of Activity metaclass and add tags
definitions.
2. import a profile with the stereotypes I need.
3. add tag values.
4. choose feature visibility option and mark Show Element Compartments | Tags...

but nothing happens and there are no tags visible in the activity on the diagram :-(.

I'll be much obliged for any help...
Best

Aaah! It's me to apologise! When I tried above example, I created an object instead of an activity :-[ Now I notice that Activities don't show Tags. I have to dig what Superstructures tells us about that...
Edit:Went through Superstructures. It doesn't tell anything about Tagges Values in relation with Activities. The chapter about Notation tells us that Activities will show as rounded rectangle. That's all. You probably have to blame OMG (or find the missing link) befor you can pass this to Sparx. Sorry.

P.S. You still can send me PM's whenever they have a private character ;)

Dear Thomas,

Thank you for all your effort you put in order to help me. If you don't mind I'd like to ask you about your opinion regarding the following issue.

I am working on my own methodology for organization modeling. One of the views I defined is a TASK VIEW which
consists of few task models in the form of UML diagrams.

One of diagram I'd like to define is task decomposition diagram. As a basic building block of the diagram I'd like to use the stereotype of the activity with additional information (input object, output object etc.) which will be defined as a tags. But as you know there is a problem to show the taggs defined.

Mayby better solution is to use for a task a stereotype of a class metaclass with proper tagged values. What discourages me is that task is some kind of behavior and class is a classifier...but maybe it is good approach to use the specialization of class diagram to show structural aspects of tasks (task-subtask structure) in organization and than control aspect with the use of activity diagram...

What do you think about that, is it reasonable or not?

All the best!

Jacek

Jacek,
that's hard to tell. What you write sounds reasonable, but as the tool or UML do not support it in the way you want, you obviously have to choose another way.
Maybe it's a dumb question, but have you read about EP and why don't you use their approach?

To show tagged values for an Activity, right-click "Advanced Settings | Use Rectangle Notation".

But what about tagged values for actions?
Is there any trick?

Neil, Jacek,
I thought a moment over this - and now I'd say that this is an EA bug. When Sparx offers a Feaure Visibility with an option Show Element Compartments then these should be displayed if enabled. Be it rectangle or not. Either Sparx disables these options for certain elements (e.g. Actions of non-rectangle-shown Acivities) or it has to show them.

Jacek: you should file a bug report.

Yes!

Although in the case where a shape is NOT designed to have compartments, the issue is somewhat problematic.

My suggestion would be to retain the original uncomparmented shape, but extend its surround with the compartments.

Paolo,

what does it mean? How to implement your strategy if I need additional information inside actions? One of the recommended method is to use tagged values, but I am not able to use them because there are not visible  :(

It means that the shape should stay as it is and the compartments (like the Tags) should appear outside somewhere nearby. But the should appear...
