Import DB Schema disabled
« on: April 10, 2006, 03:40:44 am »
I know this is probably elementary, I have just taken over EA from someone who left.

I wish to import a table schema from SQL Server, but when I go into

Project->DataBase Engineering

the option

Import DB Schema from ODBC

is grayed out.  I cannot see how to enable it.

I am running EA v6.0.781 Registered Professional Edition.

Hi,

first thing that comes to mind: do you have a project file open?

Hi Bruno

I do have a project open and I have tried via the right click option in the Project Explorer window but the option is also grayed out in the context menu.

Is there any other advice you could offer?

Thanks

Andy

I have created a blank project and can successfully import the table schema into that.  I still cannot import into the project file I  wish to.

Any further help would be appreciated.

OK, found it....

I was on a diagram page that was set to locked.  I moved to a page that was not locked. and then the option became available.

Hope this helps the next newbie.....

Its Diagram->Lock Diagram

Just prevents inadvertent slip-ups when navigating.  I don't believe that you can prevent anyone from unlocking the page.  If your co-workers do not need to edit the diagrams you might consider giving them the free view-only version of EA.

There are other locking mechanisms in EA.

If you enable security (corporate edition only) you can lock parts of the model for only a particular user or group of users to edit.  You can also set up permissions for a variety of things.

Then there is also version control support which locks packages unless you currently have them checked out.
