A very good question. In a popular forum I have been frequenting for the past 7 or 8 years this issue (searching before posting) has come up about two years ago. The common resolve was that the forum moderators should adapt the thread titles if neccessary.

I'm not sure if this solution is feasible within this forum, or if it's even possible to change thread titles after the fact. Probably the best way would be to assign 'moderator' rights to some people who would be willing to take over this task, but again, I don't know if that is possible with this version of YABB.

Another thing introduced in the abovementioned forum was an addition to the user registration page, which introduced new users to the search facilities of the forum, before they even had a chance to post anything. This did help, too.

I wish I had something constructive to add here, but I dont think I have.

If I cant find an answer to a problem searching in "my phraseology" using a 99 day search or, depending on whether I think the original question is somewhat obscure, a 999 day search, I then search the entire (99999 day) forums in reverse order and try and find some related phrases to re-search on.  Since UML has not changed "much" (haha) often I find very old posts that can give clues to how to search...

Then, if I cant find anything relvant I blatantly ask the question.

'Twere good you do so much for charity."

Oh I forgot, we aren't doing him are we.

Enter "a" as search criterium (without quotes) and 99999 days. The answer is somewhere in the middle of the search results.
