Relationships lost on package imports
« on: June 27, 2007, 01:36:20 pm »
We currently have multiple users of EA using their own repositories (Jet Engines)- This is not an ideal situation... Which I am trying to fix... In the meantime.

I have been exporting /importing content in XMI and mapping "Project Classes" to "Enterprise Classes" - up until now this has worked really well and allows me to produce traceability matrices and mapping reports...

Yesterday I had to re-import some "Project Classes" and found that although the classes were updated via their GUIDS... the traceability and indeed any relationships to classes outside of any within the imported package... disappear...

Is there any way I can ensure these 'links' are not lost... when importing existing packages?

Is their a patch for this.... problem?

Al

Hi Al,

Do a search of recent posts - over the last two weeks. Unfortunately I cannot remember the best keywords, but try XMI or XML.

There was a very recent problem report, somewhat oblique, that might bear on what you've experienced. One of the Sparxians answered, then after a user post corrected himself and agreed the problem was real.

The problem has apparently been resolved in either build 812 (the current beta 3 of EA 7.0) or the next build, I am not sure which.

In any case try the search, and see if the above-mentioned thread addresses your problem. Otherwise, watch this thread for updates. Remember you can set an option to email you whenever another post is added to the thread. If you don't get a resolution in the next (very) few days report a bug to Sparx directly, so that the issue is resolved before EA 7.0 goes to production. For a direct bug report you can use the Support link at the top of a forum page, then the Bug Report link in the left side menu. Or, from the EA main menu choose Help | On-line Resources | Bug Report Page.

HTH, David

Thanks for this, impressed to get a response within the hour... we just recently invested in 120 floating licences, so it would be good to use them effectively

Remember that this is a user forum Al. Sparx does monitor and participate, but the community is pretty active.

And by the way, welcome!

I have experienced the same issue and it triggered a panic button to my entire team, I being the EA Tech Lead for our project, lost my sleep. But the immediate next day when I reloaded the project (model), I got all my links back in place. But still I lost in few other class diagrams & sequence diagrams.

I do have a list of such issues/limitations, and I should be posting them soon. I really appreciate the way these posts are responded.
Thanks in advance,
Sekhar Aripaka

Alan, you'll see (from forum posts) that I and my coworker, Darren, have been at the forefront of identifying and helping Sparx resolve such round-trip issues.  So we are keen to ensure this works.

Also, don't dismiss separate repositories for each developer out of hand.  We've been running with this for nine-months without untoward ill effects.  There are some posts on this here also.  Your circumstances will vary from ours, I'm sure, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater summarily.

TIA,
Paolo
