Association stereotype lable font size
« on: September 28, 2007, 02:11:09 am »
I have an association line with a stereotype of <<merge>>.  How can I increase the font size of the stereotype lable (i.e.; the string <<merge>>) ?

Hi Jim,

After a quick browse through both EA and the help file, I have the sinking feeling you cannot...

This is an interesting 'hole' in the overall options for EA.

Perhaps we need to be able to specify fonts for some or all of:
  • Connectors in general - Tools | Links dialog
  • Stereotypes in general - Tools | Objects dialog (or somewhere similar)
  • Individual stereotype overrides - Settings | UML | Stereotypes tab
  • Individual diagram objects - F4
Or am I just talking through our hats?

David

Hi David;

I agree with you.  I'm in the process of developing PodCast courses on the UML using EA to demonstrate the semantics of various diagrams.  I need to make the text in EA diagrams large enough to be visible or I'll have to resort to something like Corel Draw.  :-/

I'll leave you to start the 'official' feature request Jim. You've got the context nailed down best.

You can adjust the sizes of all text on the diagram on the Objects page on the options dialog.

As of build 817 there is also a scale factor that in effect allows the current user to view all diagrams zoomed in.  This is the preferred way of increasing font sizes for a particular user over changing the font properties on the same page.

That's

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?objectappearance.htm

As Simon states, the scale factor is the better choice, because it increases everything in proportion rather than putting large text on small element shapes and connector lines. The font change is useful for subtle increases rather than large jumps.

You can also make the labels bold or in color. See:

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?labelmenusection.htm

For a connector, just make sure that you don't click on an overlap of the label and connector, as the connector context menu is dominant.

Yep!  Setting the scale factor and object font size does the trick for me.  Still havn't figured out the second hyperlink though...

Thanks

I have corrected the link - I originally edited the text manually and forgot that you mustn't use upper case. Sorry!

Thanks.  The link worked for me, but where is the Label menu found?  I'm running v817 and I can't find it.  It hasn't found its way into the help files yet.

The Label Menu is a context menu. Right-click on the label (on a Connector or in an element) to display it. As previously warned, make sure the cursor is on the label and only the label - no overlap with connector lines or element contents, otherwise the Label context menu won't show.

The topic has been in the EA Help since Release 6.5 (though it hasn't been indexed until very recently) - a Search should find it, or look under Modeling With Enterprise Architect > Working With UML Diagrams > Diagram Tasks > Label Menu Section. It's two topics below the Using the Image Manager topic.

My point here is, once one has found this subject in the help file, the help text does not tell one where to find it in the diagram.  Your comments here are very helpful, my suggestion would be to include them in the help file text..

Done.

You will see the changes in the Help in the installer when Build 812 is released. The Help on the website might take a little longer.

I'm assuming you meant build 818, not 812...
