Does Sparx still support version 6.1?  If not, am I allowed to upgrade to 7.1?  What is the cost?

I don't think there's too much 'support' for 6.1, it is getting kind of old. You can always ask questions here, in the hope that the answer does not involve newer features or new code.

As far as renewals go, you can definitely upgrade to the current version. Check out the EA license page; there is some renewal information part way down the page, just above the renewal price list. The cost is certainly not punitive.

Thanks David.  In a bit of a quandry.  Where can I find the differnces between 6.1 and 7.1?  Are there significant differences between the two version that if I learn to use 6.1 that I will have to relearn 7.1?  How long ago was 6.1 released and when was 7.1 released?  I need this information to make a recomendation to my client for a quick turn around project.

Also, does Sparx have a "job aid" in PDF format they could send me that would help me to get started quickly?  Specifically, I have to create business process model with a business workflow (swimlanes).

There is a link to the feature list on the EA product page. You'll have to sort out what's missing in 6.1 though. You can always wade through the release notes on the EA History page.

There were quite a few features added in 6.5 and 7.x, so things have changed quite a bit.

Note that BPMN is now integrated into the base product. It is still and MDG Technology, but comes as part of EA. This might be a viable approach for your business models. You'll need to read up on BPMN on your own though. There is a very brief 'teaser' here; the page also provides a link to a basic tutorial.

You can find more BPMN information, and the standard, at http://www.bpmn.org/.
