I am generating a sequence / component diagram (typically I do DB models, now I get to do code).

I made all my components, but how do I get the connectors to work. I select my component and click the connector and it goes from the component to the same component and I cant move it to connect to the target component.

I know I am missing something fundamental, just can't find anything in the help sections.

When you say click - don't release the mouse.  Use the quick connector (the little up arrow) and hold the mouse and drag it to the component or lifeline you want to create the connector to, then release the mouse.

A click and release of the mouse will create a self reference.
