Numbering in Communication Diagrams?

I would like to know if there is any way of:

a) Being able to have a message coming out from nowhere to an object (like the first message of the following example):

  start()    ----------------    1. create()   ------------
------------> | RGController | ---------------> | U : User |
              ----------------                  ------------

b) being able to manually set the the numbering on message in Communication Diagrams.

I am using the latest version of EA.

AFAIR there is a way to do this in seq diagrams, something about a "lost message" or "found message" or something, searching your local help may assist here. Dunno about communication diags though, can't you use an "event"?

AKAIK the only way to get any sense is to use manual numbering, isn't there a menu or context menu item about this somewhere?

Sorry to be so nebulous, haven't got a vm/EA running at the moment.
