Comparing diagrams
« on: August 25, 2010, 04:57:16 am »
Is it possible with Enterprise Architect to make diagram which shows us a changes which were make since some earlier version or sth?

I suppose that it is possible to make it manually by giving for some elements or connectors special style or color. But is there some better way? Or maybe EA can do that for us?

You can compare models (or packages) against a baseline or an xmi file, but that will show you a list of changes rather then a diagram.

OK, so maybe there is a chance that I can modify view of connectors when I set them some special value, for example stereotype: "old"

I tried successfully change view of some objects like class or activity because of stereotype, but it doesn't work for connectors

Do somebody know why? Or know some add-in's which fix that?

In version 8.0 you could try incrementing elements version number attribute then use diagram filters highlight changes. Diagram views can be access via the view menu. For instance in version 1.0 of the diagram make version = 1.0 on all elements. In version 2.0 new elements are given the value of 2.0 in their version attribute. Then create a filter where version = 2.0 so it greys out or fades the other elements. We do this to show current state and future state diagrams.
Regarding the connectors these don't work with filters, they are shown only when the elements on both ends are visible. We suggested to Sparxs in a recent user group that it would be good to filter connectors as well. So it might be added in the future.
Hope that helps.
