Document Versioning and Change Tracking!
« on: June 12, 2013, 12:39:01 am »
Hello Everyone,

I am using Enterprise Architect for the first time for Business Analysis so please bear with me if you find my questions too elementary.

I would like to know how can we generate documents with proper tracking of change and document versioning. So far we had been creating documents manually using MS Words and used to manually handle versioning as well as history of changes in document.

So, I would really appreicate if you could let me know if similar feature is available in Enterprise Architect. I would like document readers to be informed of the changes made in the version against any element (requirement/ use case) everytime I provide them a newer version.

Looking forward to your inputs.

Regards,
Zulfiqar

I'd simply suggest to use a standard versioning system to check in documents generated from EA and use these as reference. The model itself is more a way to work on the current state and to promote it. Going back in the history of a model is nothing you would like to do, nor does it make much sense.

There is a feature for tracking changes called Audit - these logged changes can be included in the RTF report templates. See the help topic on Audit.
For the Version - an option is to report the parent Package's Version and update this for each run.
Another simple alternative is to keep your last report and post generating a new one - use the standard Word feature Compare Documents - to view the changes between runs.
