MDG Technologie vs.  UML Profile
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:47:36 pm »
Hi,

is there a documentation what makes the difference between using MDG Technology and UML Profile ? Also how they work together ?

I experienced, if I put the content of   Profile / Toolbox (MDG Technology) in to a UML Profile, it seems to be work. Using UML is more easy then using MDG Technology...

Thanks,

Michel

An MDG is much easier to use across multiple repositories in my opinion.

With a UML profile. it has to be exported / imported between repositories, whereas an MDG can be located in a suitable network file and then Enterprise Architect configured to load the MDG from this file.

This way all users are guaranteed to be working with the latest version, without them having to import every time a profile changes.

In addition, an MDG can encapsulate other repository resources such as
  • Images
  • Scripts
  • Workspace Layouts
  • MDA Transforms
  • RTF templates
  • Searches
Thereby ensuring consistency across the modelling team

Of course, if you are working alone, then I guess there is not much difference between the two, but I would opt for an MDG every time

Cheers

Phil
