Context Filtering
« on: April 24, 2014, 10:34:57 pm »
Hi,
Does context filtering only work for certain types of associations/relationships?  Or do you have to be in a certain Mode of operation.  I have class diagrams with composition/ aggregation connectors and when I put context filter on and select a class, the class is highlighted (with border box).  I expected the classes that were not related to gray out, but instead the class I select is simply highlighted for edit.  Am I using this feature wrong?

I just tried context filtering on a couple of class diagrams - one abstract PIM and one C# PSM - and it worked as expected.    As directed by the help, I right-clicked on where the diagram background was empty and turned on the option, and then selected an element on the diagram,  Unrelated elements were greyed out.

Can you send me an example...My diagram is very simple and still not working.  I am using version 10 of EA.  I have tried several time by selecting the context filter off the menu from a right click, or by selecting it from the toolbar.  Nothing works...The class is always selected for edit

I wanted to send a screen capture of my class diagram with context filter on, but I do not know how to add an image that is on my desktop.  Is this something that is allowed on this forum.  If so how do I do it?

The effects of context filtering are sometimes influenced with the 'diagram filters' settings. See if you have 'Fade' effect in the Diagram -> Diagram Filters window.

Couldn't really reproduce the issue.  Can u try selecting the class in context and press L key in your keyboard.  Se if you have the incoming and outgoing relationships highlighted

I used EAExample.eap shipped with EA and class diagrams from "UML Structural Diagrams/CLass Diagrams" where you find language specific (PSM) examples and an abstract class model.   A key difference though is that I am using EA 11.

Just had another go to check any dependency with the Diagram Filters.  I thought there wasn't any but it seems there is.  With no diagram filters selected it seems the type of filter chosen in the dropdown box on the Diagram filters toolbox affects how the context filtering works.  If I choose "Select..."   or "Hide" from this dropdown the context filtering stops working.   However if I choose "Fade" or "Gray scale" then it works.   If I switch back to Hide/Select then it stops working again.

No its (oddly) not allowed on this forum, I guess Sparx can't afford the storage.
See here for how to display an image.
