Decommissioning Archimate Elements in SPARX.

As part of ongoing transformation work we are getting to a point where we are required to decommission archimate elements, eg. data objects, etc., from our As-Is models.
We'd like to retain information regarding the decommissioned elements, so a straight delete would not be acceptable.
We have been looking at whether we could address our requirement to retain information about the decommissioned elements by creating a number of new Archimate_Decommissioned elements by use of a custom stereotype and hopefully a stereotype of decommissioned for any related connector(s). We could then simply change the type.
Is this the right way to go? Are there any alternative suggestions as to how we could achieve this?
