Movable? - In addition to Selectable and Printable
« on: January 21, 2016, 11:13:28 am »
In the past, there was only the option: Selectable for objects on a diagram.
What I wanted was Movable, in addition.  So an object was still selectable, but wouldn't "accidentally" move as you tried to select it (and thereby "dirty" the diagram.

Recently, the option Printable was added.

So I think it would be good to have the Movable option also.

Thoughts?

I like selectable.  If they are going to improve experience in that general area, I'd prefer that diagram filters and layout options we improved.  Generally, I have to add a whole lot of spacer shapes so I can "box" elements in the right places and then optimally layout relationships between them.  I'd also like to be able to "tree" a selected set of relationships (and elements) with one click.

I like selectable.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, I'm proposing Movable in addition to Selectable and Printable.
Selectable is still required - absolutely.  Perhaps, if they add Movable, then setting something as Unselectable also makes it Immovable (sort of by definition).
In addition, perhaps making something Immovable, means that you also don't want it to be moved by the layout process?
There's two issues here,
  • Stopping the "accidental" movement on selection - perhaps that might be a global setting.
  • Stopping the layout process moving stuff.  Notes are already resistant to layout...

I'm pretty sure if a note is selectable it plays havoc with some of the layout options.

Depends what you mean by havoc.  Notes don't move in either classic or the newer layout tools.  Interestingly, they seem to move if the [X] Center focussed element is checked (even if NO element is selected as the focus) - EAUI?

Great idea. I like the idea of selectable, but not movable, e.g. for boundaries

If I understood it correctly Selectable is actually Moveable (EAUI wording). You still can select it to make it selectable. And it reacts to dbl-click.

There is a difference. Try locking a diagram - the elements will now be selectable but not movable.

That's why I want to be able to "freeze" individual objects on a diagram, regardless of the locking of the diagram as a whole.
