Co-Exist EA 13 and 12.1?
« on: September 02, 2016, 12:42:32 pm »
Hi There,   I've tried searching but cannot find and answer for this.   I'm trying to co-exist 12.1 and the 13 Beta.  I thought by changing the install directory, that this would work...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sparx Systems BETA\EA

... but the 13 installer still seems to find my 12.1 version and uninstall it.    This must be something that has been solved before.  Can you help?

Sure has...  Take a copy of the v12 EA directory
Install 13
Put back the copy (leaving a copy behind).

This is EAUI at the installation level.

Thanks, guys!   I followed the instructions that Aaron pointed me to and that worked.  I was trying to install 13 a new directory rather than renaming the current install directory, so I had it backwards.

My view (and I suspect  that of others) is:
If I am installing NOT into the EA directory, WHY is  the second EA messing with it in the first place?

The end result is still two different paths...

I blame that (and other oddities in EA) on the fact that running around upside down all the time may mess up your concept of what is considered normal or abnormal by the upright people, so now and then you get things backward  8)

Maybe because they are in Victoria?  I don't think it's being upside down.

Because the Windows Installer engine has access to all of the install\unistall information in the registry, plus there are installer manifests hiding away under the. O/S directories.

"North" is actually down as far as the Galactic Plane is concerned.  We don't make a big deal about it, the same way we don't make a big deal about having to come all the way down there and save you chaps when all those posh Germans start arguing amongst themselves.

The real problem with Australians is not that they live at the top of the world but that they buy their shorts a size too small, and that their women are capable of drinking an unfeasibly large amount of beer.

If they can drink it, it must, ipso facto, be feasible...

or is it an incredible amount of beer since it's actually possible?

And, of course, this weekend, the ladies played an exhibition match of Aussie Rules Football.

Seems like you don't make a big deal of many things that would scare the crap out of us Northerners: 3 meter crocodiles, giant venomous spiders, venomous snakes, about anything in the wild that is after killing you.
From my observation (from afar) the big deals down there are: BBQ (pronounced "barbie"), Kylie Minogue, and rugby   :P

Crocodile tastes like old tough squid.  There's also really small venomous spiders.

There's three codes played in Australia; Rugby Union, Rugby League and Aussie Rules (AFL).  In Victoria they're big into AFL.  They may not even understand what Rugby Union is.

Apparently, the deadliest animal in Australia (after Man, of course) is the horse. People keep trying to sit on them.

Actually, Glassboy doesn't have much to make a big deal of, being a resident of The Island Of The Long White Cloud. (question, which island is that - North or South?) There is only one thing to be nervous of there, and that is a pink-backed version of the Australian Red-Back (and a cousin of the American Black Widow). And even then he has some big, strong Maori friends to come and squash it for him. Who needs to worry when your national team is The All Blacks? (Sorry Neil!)
Best Regards, Roy

Roy,

I believe it is the "land of the long white cloud", being composed of 3 islands (according to Glassboy): North South and West - the one we're on...
