Align elements
« on: November 25, 2019, 09:51:33 pm »
Hello, We have a shared repository with diagrams. If one worker makes a diagram, aligns the elements, he sees everything nicely aligned. If another worker joins the diagram then the elements are not aligned, there are many crossing lines. Don't know where the problem is Why all workers don't see the diagrams aligned?

Not sure how this is timely coordinated. But if one person makes changes they are only on that person's computer. Only after saving or closing the changes are written to the DB so another person can open the diagram and see changes.

thanks for the answer, of course that's what it means. But I align the elements nicely into the line line without crossing and let save. Someone else opens it, so the lines are crossed. That is the problem.

I would double check the settings of each Sparx EA connected to the repository. Anybody with diagram auto layout enabled may be causing a problem or seeing a diagram with wrong layout.

OMG what is an auto-layout diagram? Some new creepy V15 feature?

What version of EA are you using? What version is your colleague using? What type of diagram? What type of connectors?

Nothing new, the creepy bit seems to be they could have made an improvement with v15.

In case you want some type of odd entertainment, have a play with the Diagram Layout tool on the Layout ribbon, it has been there for a while. Generally speaking it does a bad job. The scary part is that if I remember correctly in previous versions it was very easy to mess the layout of diagram by using this tool and even set a layout as your default layout.

In V15 that appears to be more difficult.

Is that a data model or reverse engineered diagram?

Something else to watch in Sparx is the dreaded "Layout diagram when complete" on the "Insert Related Elements" dialogue, it always does a nice job with a nicely laid out diagram (excuse the sarcasm). As far as I can remember, it is also enabled by default.

P.S.: The reason for the reference above to reversed engineer diagram is that the "Layout diagram when complete" (or something similar) also appears somewhere at the bottom of the reverse engineering dialogue. If you are not careful and updating from source or physical database an existing nicely laid out diagram, it very easy to mess it up.

Oh, it's probably the attribute order you get confused with? There is some setting somewhere in the EA option jungle. Don't ask me where. But that might be the reason.
