Problem when pasting text in a note...
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:31:24 am »
Has anyone else run in to the problem where you first copy some text of interest (could be from a note within a different drawing), then add a note to say a Use Case description, then paste the copied text in the note, and the note appears to be about an inch or so wide but vertically a mile long? I end up having to scroll down and down to find the bottom of the note box and then resize it to a more usable size. It didn't used to do this but did after I updated to the current version of 7.1  Wondering what happened or if maybe some preferences got changed.

Looks like EA wraps the text always at the default width. You should report this as a feature (well, they would not accept this as bug, would they?) request to calc the width of a note depending on the widest single line.

Or set a default note width on a global or per-project basis...
No, you can't have it!

How would you do this (set a default Notes width) on a global basis?

thanks,

steve

Hi Michael,

Did you actually try this out?  If you did, can you provide EXACT steps to making it work.

"Note" does not appear in the list of Element types and so I would guess that your suggested fix might not work...

So I tried it and sure enough it doesn't seem to...  Admittedly, I haven't been as close to EA recently, but...

More EAUI...  (That's why we need the EXACT steps to get any functionality working.)

I won't use the word that cannot mention its name...  But I will observe the templates package does work with other (real?) element types (such as Requirements)

TIA,
Paolo

:-[ Yes, sorry that's my mistake. The Template Package won't include notes, as notes are stored against diagrams rather than being contained within a package (much the same as boundaries etc).

Please submit a feature request to Sparx Support if you'd like to see this functionality included.

PS: Neil and I have been having a look into this, it appears that Notes will honour the template package prototype if they are dragged in from the toolbox or created from the Create Element context menu. What doesn't work is if the note is created from the UML Elements toolbar or from the New Element button in the Project Browser. I'll look into this ASAP.

Thanks Michael,

The problem you cite stopped me cold. I did not think to try the workaround.
