RTF document crashed
« on: March 25, 2010, 10:24:58 pm »
Description:
We generate documents using Master & Model document elements.
Once the RTF generated, we are usually controlling the outcome and we are doing some small correction of the document such as removing unnecessary spaces (paragraphs), paging, etc.

Problem:
After we started to use EA 7.5.850 MS Word application crashing very often during document modification. It happens on more computers of my colleagues (not on the one only).
Previously we used EA 7.1.831 basically the same templates and it was alright.

Has someone experience with this? I guess it has in connection with templates but I don't know what I should check.
Or the worse possibility when is it in connection with RTF generator.

Thanks

I recently had a problem with MS Word 2003 crashing after loading an EA generated RTF document. I narrowed it down to the TOC3 style and some mysterious tab stops that didn't show up in the style's specification.

I was trying to tidy up the TOC and had turned on automatic style updates. After narrowing down the problem, I removed the tab-stops from the TOC and refreshed it (F9 key) and then edited the TOC1-3 style settings with the format style dialog box.

I've noticed over the years that Word understand more RTF than it allows you to control, which clearly leads to test case issues. Looks like the RTF generator is producing some RTF formatting that is breaking MS Word! At least when you try to alter the formatting.

Hope that helps
Dave B.

Thanks for your effort Dave.
I have fully removed TOC to make me sure that this causes these problems but unfortunatelly without good result. The error still continues.
btw. I use Office 2007
