Stereotype - duplicates in dropdown??
« on: July 27, 2010, 06:58:09 am »
EA 8.0.859 (Corporate Edition)
Windows XP SP3

Properties -> Stereotype [Dropdown list] contains duplicates for many objects.  For example, BPMN 1.1 Core "Start Event " stereotype property has "StartEvent", "IntermediateEvent", "EndEvent" options but each is duplicated.

Other objects have some stereotypes duplicated.  Analysis Diagram "Control Object" has many more options, but several "worker" stereotypes ("case worker", "internal worker", "worker") are all duplicated - none of the other 12-15 stereotypes are duplicated.

Should this be the case and/or is there any relevance to the multiple types?

Added note:  I used the trial version prior to purchasing - however, per the installation instructions, the trial was uninstalled prior to installing the purchased version.

Thanks.

Sent this to tech support and here is the answer (thanks Simon):

The duplicate entries are likely due to both the BPMN 1.0 and BPMN 1.1 MDG Technologies being enabled (as stereotypes with the same names exist in both). If you only intend on using one of the BPMN Technologies it is best to disable the other via the "Settings | MDG Technologies" dialog. You will need to restart EA for this change to take effect.

If you wish to use both BPMN 1.0 and 1.1, to ensure you are selecting the appropriate stereotype you should use the "browse other stereotypes" option in the Stereotype dropdown list (if you are using the properties window), or use the ellipsis "..." button next to the stereotype drop down (if you are using the properties dialog).

Follow up question about disadvantages of disabling BPMN 1.0:

Generally you would only need to have BPMN 1.0 enabled if your model contains old BPMN 1.0 diagrams/elements as you mentioned. If you plan on using BPMN 1.1 there is no disadvantage to disabling BPMN 1.0.
