EA 8.0.862 trims notes
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:55:00 pm »
We have this bizarre issue with one of our users.
Whenever she enters text in a notes section the added text is trimmed of all spaces.
So if she enters "word1 word2 word3" it becomes "word1word2word3"
This happens only to the added text. The original text (with spaces) is left unchanged.
We noticed this behavior since the upgrade to 8.0.862 (from 7.5.850).

She is on XP with a repository on a remote SQL Server 2008.
The connection is made using SQLNCLI10.
Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on? I'm baffled :-[

I've been able to reproduce the issue on my machine.
Changing the keyboard layout from "Dutch (Belgium)" to "French (Belgium)" made EA to eat my spaces :o

Guess I'll have to send in another bug report  :-X

Is it only in particular text fields (eg RTF or plain text fields)?

The other thing might be to check if any sort of sticky key is down (particularly SHIFT and CTRL). Some text fields may not handle [Shift]+[Space] or may be trying to invoke autocomplete if [Ctrl]+[Space] is being entered.

It's obviously a political issue...  ;)  Send the keyboard to a "reeducation camp"   ;D

(it's already Friday here in OZ...)

I've noticed this on the elements notes (so pseudo-RTF), I haven't tested it on plain text fields.
I can't be the sticky key thing. All I need to do to reproduce it is to change the keyboard layout.

Yeah, so you can imagine that upgrading EA only for the Flemish users might stir up some unwanted emotions, especially given the current political situation :-X

Just received a reply from support:

This issue has been reported by others also and is logged as a bug to be fixed.

Reference Number: 10055602

Our developers have identified a fix however it requires a major change which will need substantial testing.  We currently plan on implementing the change in the next major release of EA (EA Version 8.1), though we cannot yet say when this will be released.

Hmmmm,
I hope this "major change" also addresses the following similar issue
RTF editor input methods
Orthogonality rules
Position and Team disestablished, thanks austerity.
Now itinerant.

I have the exact same problem with 8.0.863 on XP with SQL Server 2008.
