Displaying notes from a Diagram Reference.

When I create a diagram reference, an associated element is created in my project, and I can create notes, constraints for it.  But I cannot make the notes display on the diagram containing that reference.  When I set the diagram properties, I select all of the options for showing 'compartments', but none of them show up.  How do I display this information?
