Error in Initializing Provider
« on: August 11, 2011, 07:47:50 pm »
Hi

I have 3 people all with Windows 7 having issues with connecting to our server repository.  They get an error as soon as they try to test the connection "Error in Initializing Provider"

I have no issue, but am using XP.  They have the same Oracle client, tns.ora and sqlnet.ora files as myself.

They are able to ping and telnet the server and using the Oracle connection client, can connect to the oracle database.  This leads me to think that the issue is with EA.

Has anyone had a similar experience or an idea on how to resolve this?

We are starting to roll out windows 7 to the whole team shortly and I cant have my team with no connection to the repository!!

Cheers
BB

Are these users running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7?

From the EA User Guide:

Quote
Enterprise Architect requires 32-bit ODBC drivers to connect to a repository through ODBC; to set up the ODBC configuration on 64-bit clients, run the 32-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

All 32 bit, think we have found the issue.  We need to run it as administrator in windows 7.  hate Microsoft.  thanks for the help.
