Suggestions and Requests / Support for Subversion
« on: June 22, 2005, 04:50:52 pm »
Thought I'd pop a message in this forum, since there are now two threads in the General forum.

Since svn is fast taking the place of cvs as the VC app of choice, it would be a Good Thing (TM) for Sparx to include support for this app.

I got very excited about the new version contol features until I realised that it didn't support svn :-(

thanks in advance

Here's my vote as well  :-)  From all I'm told by the developers I work with and many more that I know svn is taking over from cvs as the application of choice for version control.

General Board / Re: Questions about using a shared repository
« on: June 21, 2005, 05:44:53 pm »
Thanks Thomas, I can see now how we might work with the separate repository although I must say I don't think this is the nicest way to implement the feature but that's a subject for another forum after we've worked with it for a while :-)

I do find the documentation frustrating at times.  Good documentation should cover the use of the product in context and the EA User Manual falls short in this regard in my opinion.

It's so frustrating having to teach yourself through trial and error!  And we just don't have time to do that so consequently, I know we're not using the product to its full advantage for our organisation :-(

I do hope that the ICONIX training comes to Melbourne!

General Board / Questions about using a shared repository
« on: June 20, 2005, 04:51:20 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I've searched user manuals and messages posted here and have not been able to get my head around how things work when you're using a shared repository.  I thought I understood it, but now that we've set one up, I am lost.

We have created an Oracle repository and transferred several models to the repository successfully.

Now I want to transfer all the older models that we've previously saved on our network file system into the repository so that parts of these models can be re-used in new models.

While the documentation says lots about creating a repository and transferring a model, there is nothing about how one uses this resource once its set up.  If I've missed this, please point me to the right place as I'd be most grateful!

Here are my questions:

How does one find a particular model, package, artefact etc within the repository?  We've transferred 3 models to the repository, but every time I connect, the same model loads.  I can't find anywhere to pull out the others.

How do you work with multiple models?  Our DBA seems to think, after checking out the repository using his Oracle tools, that you can't have multiple models within a single Oracle schema.  Is this correct?

I'm confused about the "Connection Name".  What is its purpose?  Is this specific to the model/project?  Is it specific to the user?  It appears in the recent models list, so I assumed it would load a specific model, but you don't nominate a name when you tranfer the model.  Is it the model name, ie model.eap?

As I said above, I can find no documentation on the day-to-day use of a repository, how it works and how a team might share models and parts of models.  What am I missing?

thanks in advance

General Board / Scenarios
« on: March 28, 2004, 10:55:04 pm »
Hi everyone,

maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems that the interface for entering UC scenarios makes it way more work that it needs to be.  Frankly, I wouldn't use it if it didn't offer the useful feature of importing them into test scenarios and perhaps even that's not worth the extra time it takes.  I'm perservering because I want all my doco in one place, but I'm also trying to be Agile here, and the scenarios interface just isn't doing it for me.

Is there a way that I can import scenarios from a list in another application (csv, text list, rtf).  I find the dialogue box a pain (new, save, new etc) and editing to add more detail a bigger pain.  Even when I number them, it doesn't sort them properly and I'm forever sorting and resorting going up and down (groan).

How do y'all get your scenarios into your use cases?  Have I missed some easy way to do this?

thanks in advance

You can only do this with the Corporate Edition.  User Security provides this kind of functionality.  Mind You, I've never tried it :-)

Many thanks!  That is VERY different to the online help description...

General Board / Context Menu, Test Dialogue
« on: October 14, 2003, 12:16:47 am »
OK, I think I am missing something here.  I am looking into test scripts, etc.  I right-click on an element in a diagrma (use case, class) and the context menu does *not* show a Project Management/Test Scripts menu item  as per the online help.

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?  I'm sure this is something simple that I've missed....

thanks in advance
